Hey there, I’m Laury — professional Canadian cyclist, full-time student, and a lot of other things that you are about to discover.

I started cycling at the age of 12, without knowing what I was getting into, and how much it would impact my life. I would ride my bike twice a week with my local club in Gatineau, QC. I remember hating the way I looked with a helmet on, so I would let my hair down — terrible rookie mistake.

I did short track speed skating in the winter for about 3 years, before fully committing to road cycling when I began to get my first podiums. After finishing second at the Canadian Championships as a first year junior, I learned that I had been selected for the World Championships, something that had never even crossed my mind when I first entered the sport. At only 16 years old, I travelled all the way to the UK with the heaviest suitcase in the world to do my first ever big race. I never stopped travelling from then, and I definitely improved my packing skills.

MY ROAD TO SUCCESS

MY ROAD TO SUCCESS

As a young Canadian rider, flying over to Europe seemed to be the right move to step-up my career once my junior years were over. I had the chance to get some experience overseas with a former Canadian UCI team, but those opportunities are now rare for the next generation of young female riders. Finding a team in Europe is always a hard process, and I’m grateful for the people who helped me successfully get where I am today. I’m proud to be part of the Komugi Grand-Est family, and I’m excited to see it grow along with me.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to become a vet. I think it has to be the thing I asked for the most every time I had to make a wish. That’s why I’ve always put a lot of work into my studies, and I expect nothing less than to excel in everything I do. School taught me hard work, and cycling pushed me to my limits. I’ve learned to deal with both, and the pressure I put on myself to succeed made me how I am today. I slowly continue to pursue my academic goal, where there might be some deviations along the way, but I still keep my dream in mind. It’s definitely not easy, but I’m up for the challenge.

Cycling’s taught me discipline, resourcefulness, hard work, open-mindeness, and above all, the power of community.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the beautiful people who have always supported me from near and far in the simple desire to give back to local youth. I’m proud to say that I come from a strong cycling community, and if you are here today, you’re part of it as well. Thank you for sharing your precious time with me.
